Many non-profit organizations are guided by the principle that donors expect and deserve an economically efficient impact on society in exchange for their donation. Boards generally consider this factor in carrying out their fiduciary duties. This results in two forces that I believe are contrary to the creative process: (1) pressure to meet set fundraising goals, and (2) pressure to ensure that programmatic initiatives demonstrate a successful impact within a relatively short period of time.
